How to find connection when times are hard.

Updated: Feb 10, 2021

With the pandemic ongoing things are still very uncertain. If that is affecting how you feel then you are not alone.

I don't want to dwell on the negativity, instead here are few things that I have seen that may offer you some kind of boost.

Pema Chodron Viv Groskop writer, comedian, podcaster and author of How to Own the Room had some excellent resources in her newsletter. She is a big fan of Pema Chodron,  this is an exert of Vivs newsletter which I recommend you sign up for if you don't already get it: "I’m often recommending the work of Pema Chodron and I can’t say that enough right now. She is a Buddhist nun, fabulous writer and thinker, funny and sometimes a bit rude. Oprah is a fan. So is Mary Portas who keeps a book of Pema’s sayings next to her bed. Pema Chodron is the absolute QUEEN of managing uncertainty and that is really what we need right now. She has a lot of books, audio materials and downloads so it can be hard to know where to start. I would recommend: When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times; Start Where You Are: How to Accept Yourself and Others (I really love this book); or Pema Chodron’s  Compassion Cards for daily inspiring messages" Instagram Community Tags Sara Tasker, founder of Me and Orla curates lists of Instagram hashtags in her newsletter. Recently she included #ISOLATIONCHRONICLES she briefly explains:

"Tetyana (@javaholicandtheboy) has started a two-week hashtag challenge to help her (and the rest of us) stay sane in the face of uncertainty and social isolation.

She says, “I welcome you to join me in documenting your days - in photographs or videos, words, art pieces, drawings, movements or creations.

It can be your notes, your feelings, your wins or your fees, the food you cooked or share.”

The goal, she says, is to “find ways to claim a few minutes a day to deflect and distract our anxious minds.”

Tetyana has come up with a prompt a day for two weeks, to guide our thinking, and shares them all in her Story Highlights (called “Isolation Notes”) Self Employed Club

Something I run every Sunday over on the Self Employed Club Instagram account is a weekly community gathering point for anyone with their own business.

I post up the Sunday Social post and everyone joins in with their news, offers, shout outs and anything else they want to say.

Often the post is busy from morning to evening with people chatting, it's really good for connections. If you would like to join in this Sunday please do!
