Mrs Hinch. How familiar are you with that name? As I queued at WH Smiths to post a parcel I was level with the best selling books for a while. Being a book nut I obviously stared at the titles and wondered if I had room in my life for one more book.
I may not have at the moment, but the bestseller chart certainly had room for Mrs Hinch. 3 of the top 5 books were hers. The Little Book of Lists, Mrs Hinch the Activity Journal and Hinch Yourself Happy.
I started to think about the year we have all had, and why cleaning as a trend would be really important. But beyond that I considered who Mrs Hinch is, and what she has done to create an incredibly successful personal brand.
Building a personal brand
Mrs Hinch, AKA Sophie Hinchliffe, has built an enormous community in a relatively short period (3.8m people follow her on Instagram as of current time) Her army of fans, bought 160,000+ copies of her debut book in 3 days. Making it the second fastest-selling non-fiction title of all time. What a success story!
Isn't it amazing that something like cleaning, which as a category you'd assume to be totally dominated by corporations still had space for a rank outsider to break through, and take over the space?
Now, if someone can claim cleaning, turning something we all do every day into a personal branded experience, then there is space for you to do the same with your business.
Practical actions for creating your personal brand
We all view the world in different ways, but you have to see that there is space for you to exist and grow a thriving business.
This is a fundamental. If you don't believe that, then you won't have the momentum to show your potential clients that you exist, and are perfect for them. Here are some actions that you can take to help support your personal branding goals.
Build belief in yourself. No one else is you. You started your business for a reason. Keep that reason with you at all times.
Communicate why you are different to the others.
Create a strong visual identify, help your customers recognise you instantly.
Look for ways to get ahead on trends that matter to your customers.
Build community. The more people who feel that you matter to their day to day lives the better for your company.
